Any fan of Tom DeLonge will know about his fascination with space and the concept of life from other planets. Tom's books 'The Lonely Astronaut On Christmas Eve' and 'Poet Anderson…of Nightmares' both have fantastical themes and out of this world concepts, themes that have been echoed in his most recent albums, too. But what's all this we hear about Tom's involvement in the fabled alien crash site of Area 51? Is he opening up the X-Files for real? And did he leave Blink-182 to spend more time investigating UFO's? Well, the truth is out there, so let's take a look into Tom's alien obsession.
Sekret Machines
With the release of Tom's multimedia franchise Sekret Machines seeking to uncover 'Unidentified Arial Phenomena', with the first book 'Sekret Machines Book 1: Chasing Shadows' touching on both fantasy and alleged military sourced information on actual UFO sightings and experiences.
With more books to come - both fiction and non-fiction - more music from Angels & Airwaves, and a documentary, it certainly seems Tom's busy with his out of this world obsession!
Speaking candidly to Science.Mic, Tom hinted at revelations of alien contact somewhere down the line, but stressed that the idea of 'aliens' as we know them is no more than government hype the world has been spoon-fed. Perhaps to divert our attention away from the bigger picture? Who knows? But Tom certainly seems to have his ear to the ground when it comes to national security issues of the third kind!
"I don't think I'm going to be the person that offers the best evidence unless people really trust what I'm doing and believe me. There's been hundreds and hundreds of thousands of eyewitness accounts. Trace evidence that's been analysed by scientists across the world. Events have happened on the ground. It's all around us. I know of stuff I can't talk about right now." – Tom Delonge
Earth and beyond
Tom's visions of a future where humans colonise other planets, including Mars and even the possibility of already Earth-like planet Europa may seem like science fantasy to many, but there's method in his 'madness', as such vast projects are already being discussed and considered by NASA and other space companies. It's clear that Tom's passion for revealing the truth about alien encounters and the space programme in general is set to take up a huge chunk of his time – leaving it clear he just couldn't juggle that obsession, his work with Angels & Airwaves, and being in Blink…
"I can't do everything. I can't tour nine months out of the year with enough time to do the enormity of what I'm setting out to do." – Tom Delonge
With the first book of the massive Sekret Machines franchise already on the shelves, it promises a thrilling exploration of alien encounters and urges us to look a little closer at the night sky. Who knows where Tom's fixation with outer space will take him, but we can be sure he'll share it with us!
