You read it right, During the Blink-182 Untitled Album anniversary tour in November, Blink-182 were joined onstage by hip hop legend LL Cool J to perform his 1991 anthem 'Mama Said Knock You Out'. Why did LL Cool J join the best pop/punk band on the planet for this one off crowd pleaser?
Well, why not? As the band powers through the crowd pleasing 'Dammit', there’s something visceral about this video as the fans jostle and bump into the amateur camera man providing us with a peek into this energy-filled gig. No, it's not the best quality, but that's the best thing about this video; it's raw and raucous and just as you start nodding your head to 'Dammit', BOOM, Mark cranks up a wicked base riff and LL Cool J joins the band on stage.
'Mama Said Knock You Out' is perfectly suited to Blink-182's furious musical style, and LL stalks the stage like he owns it. This is one hell of a performance, and an incredible interlude from LL. As the ticker tape falls and Blink the fans to the curse filled 'Family Reunion', you can bet those fans left the venue with a smile.
