Travis Barker has been as busy as ever over the last few months, from his collaborations with Yellawolf to his recent appearance on the Grammy's with Robin Thicke, Pitbull and Joe Perry, to work on the highly anticipated new Blink-182 album. But what does the man himself have to say about this long awaited release, and his new band mate Matt Skiba?
It appears Travis is more than excited about the new material, as he revealed in a recent interview,
"It's honestly the best material we've written or put out in years," said Barker. "I haven't been excited about a Blink album like this in a long time. I'm 120% in."
In the studio
It's clear Travis has a lot of confidence in Blink's forthcoming album, and with John Feldmann in the production seat, it's bound to be something special. But is Matt Skiba working out as well as imagined after stepping into Tom De Longe's shoes last year?
"I knew it was going to be a great fit; I didn't know it was going to be this great of a fit," Travis said of Matt, and with a statement like that, it's clear the former Alkaline Trio vocalist is absolutely killing it as the new member of Blink-182.
It's now five years since the release of Blink-182's phenomenal 'Neighbourhoods' album, so what can we expect from the new material, and the musical direction Matt may have lead the band in? Will it be a Blink/Alkaline Trio mash-up? Well with Travis stating that the trio had scrapped 16 songs destined to appear on the new album and started over from scratch, it looks like fans will have a while longer to wait before finding out!
The rumour mill has been going crazy recently, particularly after the Blink boys were snapped in the studio with Andy Biersack of Black Veil Brides and Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy. Whilst it does appear the rumours are just that, until tracks from the album start doing the rounds, who knows what Blink-182 have up their sleeve on the album Travis describes as their "best work in a decade." Better than 'Neighbourhoods', I hear you cry? By the sound of Travis' enthusiasm, it would appear so!
With all that's been going on in the studio with Mark and Matt, it’s hard to imagine Travis having time for anything else. But this is the world's first superstar drummer we're talking about! 2016 won't only see the possible summertime release of the first Blink album since 2011, Travis is also planning albums with Antemasque, the new band formed by At the Drive-In and The Mars Volta's Omar Rodríguez-López and Cedric Bixler-Zavala, two EPs with Transplants and even a solo album.
It’s beginning to look like 2016 will be a great year for Blink fans!
